MID-CAROLINA VARSITY COMPETITIVE CHEER INTEREST MEETING MARCH 31 We would like to welcome Megan Arcovio to the Mid-Carolina Rebels family as our new Head Cheerleading Coach. Megan comes to us from Lexington School District One, where she has been a member of the coaching staff at Lexington Middle School and most recently at River Bluff High School. At River Bluff, Megan Was the Head Coach for the River Bluff Junior Varsity Competition team. Through the adversity of 2020, she led her team to an undefeated cheer season. In 2021, her team won the Debbie Rogers Cheer Classic with a score over 300. We look forward to having her here for an exciting 2022-2023 year. Middle School cheerleaders will meet during their lunch period on March 31 in room 315 on the MCMS main hall (8th Grade – 10:35 AM, 6th Grade – 11:40 AM, 7th Grade – 12:25 PM).

Teacher of the Month: Congratulations to Mrs. Stacey Templin on being named Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Templin is the MCMS Media Specialist. Her peers stated that she is always willing to take the extra step in the classroom and to ensure that each student is a Rebel Reader. We are Rebel Proud of Mrs. Templin for exemplifying the mindset Passion First. Support Staff of the Month: Congratulations to Mrs. Missy Whitley on being named Support Staff of the Month. Mrs. Whitley is an instructional assistant. Her peers stated that she always has a smile on her face and is always there to help anyone who needs it. We are Rebel Proud of Mrs. Whitley for exemplifying the mindset Passion First.

Mrs. Deedee Westwood, principal of Mid-Carolina Middle School, was named a finalist for the Distinguished Administrator of Literacy award for the Palmetto State Literacy Association (PSLA). This past weekend, Mrs. Westwood attended the PSLA conference in Hilton Head, SC along with hundreds of other administrators and educators. Mrs. Westwood represented to County of Newberry and received finalist for her dedication to literacy in and out of the classroom. We are Rebel Proud!

The Athletic Awards Ceremony will be held March 17th at 5:30 in the big gym. All athletes will receive two tickets for their families to attend. Sports will include football, volleyball, Rebelettes, cheerleading, and boys and girls basketball. Food will not be served.

Congratulations to our December/January Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Betsy Hentz. Mrs. Hentz is a 6th Grade ELA teacher. Her peers state that she is an awesome teacher and mentor at MCMS! Mrs. Hentz exemplifies the mindset, We Are Connected by embracing everyone and holding positive relationships. We Are Rebel Proud! Congratulations to our December/January Support Staff of the Month, Ms. Veda Perry. Ms. Perry is the MCMS Bookkeeper. Her peers state that she is friendly and ensures that everyone has what they need with a smile on her face. Ms. Perry exemplifies the mindset, We are Connected by holding positive relationships and leading with value. We Are Rebel Proud!

The School District of Newberry County is currently experiencing a high number of students and staff impacted by Covid-19. As a result, all schools will shift from in-person instruction to eLearning virtual instruction from Tuesday, January 18 through Friday, January 21. There will be no school-related extracurricular or after school activities from January 18- January 21. Teachers who are not isolated or quarantined will use Google Meet to teach remotely and provide synchronous (live) instruction. The links for Google Meet, assignments, and class schedules, will be listed on the teacher’s page in Schoology. Parents who have questions regarding the requirements for eLearning virtual instruction should contact their child’s school or check their child’s Schoology. Breakfast and lunch for January 18-21 can be picked up at Newberry Middle School, Mid-Carolina High School, or Whitmire Community School between the hours of 10:30 am – 1:00 pm each day. We recognize that a shift of this nature impacts families and child-care, and of course, classroom instruction. However, it has become necessary as we struggle to maintain regular operations due to the high number of student and staff absences as a result of Covid-19. It is our goal to resume in-person learning on Monday, January 24. However, we will monitor the numbers and staff availability and notify parents and staff no later than Friday, January 21, if an extension is warranted. If your student is currently quarantined or isolated, this shift will not impact the length of the quarantine as told to them by the school nurse. The school will follow up with additional information as necessary. You can also follow the most recent updates on the school and district websites and Facebook pages. Again, eLearning instruction for all School District of Newberry County schools will begin on Tuesday, January 18 and will continue through January 21. We genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to provide a safe learning environment for students and staff.
